Polyamory Definition

Polyamory (from English polyamory) are loving interpersonal relationships that refuse to monogamy as a principle or necessity.

In other words, polyamory as an option or way of life, defends the practical and sustainable to be involved responsibly in intimate relationships, with profound and possibly lasting several partners simultaneously.

The Polyamory movement has existed as a visible and organized in the United States over the past twenty years, followed closely by movements in Germany and the UK. Recently, the general press has covered both the polyamory movement itself, whether the episodes connected to it.

In November 2005, held the First International Conference on Polyamory (International Conference on Polyamory & Mono-normativity) in Hamburg, Germany ..

Forms Polyamory

There are several ways to implement, depending on the preferences of stakeholders, and must necessarily involve the consent and trust of all parties involved.

Polyfidelity: involves multiple romantic relationships with sexual contact restricted to specific partners in the group.

Sub-relationships: distinguished relations between "primary" and "secondary" (an example is the most open marriages)

Polygamy (polygyny and polyandry): a house with several people (these may or may not be married or have romantic relationships between them).

Relations Group / wedding group: all members are considered equally.

* Popularized to some extent by Robert A. Heinlein, in novels such as Stranger in a Strange Land and The Moon Is a Harsh Mistress, in his books Starhawk The Fifth Sacred Thing and Walking to Mercury.

Interconnected networks of relationships: one person in particular may have relationships of various kinds with various people.

Relations Mono / Poly: a partner is monogamous, but allows the other has foreign relations.

The so-called geometric arrangements, which are described according to the number of people involved and their connections.

* Examples include "triads" and "blocks" as well as the geometries "V" and "N". The common element of the V is sometimes referred to as "pivot" or "hinge" and the partners are connected indirectly referred to as the "arms". Partners-arm linked more clearly with the pivot partner than among themselves. Situation contrasts with the "triangle" in which all three partners are connected equally. A trio can be a "V", a triangle, or a "T" (a couple with a close relationship between themselves and a more tenuous relationship with the third). The geometry of the relationship may vary over time.

Some people on sex and / or emotional Unique may, nevertheless, self-titled is polyamorous, if they have emotional ties with other relevant people. Additionally, people who describe themselves as polyamorous can enter into monogamous relationships with a partner or because they negotiated the situation, either because they feel good about the situation monogamous with one partner in particular. Some practitioners of polyamory are Swingers.

Relations Open

The term open relationship indicates a stable emotional relationship (usually between two people) in which participants are free to have other partners. If the couple choosing this alternative is married, they are talking about open marriage. "Value open" and "polyamory" are not synonymous.

In layman's terms, "open" refers to a non-exclusive sexual relationship, while polyamory involves the extension of this non-exclusive basis for the affective field to allow the creation of emotional ties outside the primary relationship with some stability.

* Certain relationships define strict rules (eg Polyfidelity), these relationships are polyamorous, but not open.

* Some relationships permit sex outside the primary relationship, but not an emotional connection (as in swing), these relationships are open, but not polyamorous.

* Some polyamorous not accept the dichotomies of "being in a relationship / not in a relationship" and "partners / not partners". Without this separation does not make sense to sort a list of "open" or "closed".

Support Groups and Intervention

Polyamory as a way of life can, in many societies, is against the generally accepted norms of behavior (even when it respects the laws). Thus, its practitioners and / or sympathizers mononormativa under pressure to conform to the standard of behavior.

To help each other or know people with similar lifestyle, supporters and practitioners of polyamory have been constituted in local networks and virtual support, discussion or social intervention (extensively using the internet).

In the latter case, poly-activists seek to intervene in society to which they belong, trying to create a positive image and worthy of respect in the majority society. Moreover, consider that the help and emotional support at times provided there is itself a form of social intervention.

Managed to Portugal and / or Portuguese-speaking communities, there is Poly_Portugal. There are other similar groups in Brazil (add).

History of the Term - Open Marriage

Open marriage typically refers to a marriage in which the partners agree that extramarital relationships are NOT considered as treason or infidelity, and can be experienced by both partners together or separately.

There are many forms and styles of open marriage in which partners have different levels of freedom or control over the sex lives of others. Each case is discussed internally among partners, and there is a pattern of relationships.

History of the Term

The origins of the term open marriage "are unclear. Researchers of the 60s used the term to describe individual freedom that people have for choosing their spouses. Closed marriage "was a term used to describe those people who were forced to marry someone against his own will, and the decision based on social rules and prohibitions. Already Open Marriage, at the time, was referring to individuals who chose their own partners based on personal preferences.

Nena O'Neill and George O'Neill changed the meaning of the term in 1972 with the publication of his book "Open Marriage," which sold more than 1.5 million copies. They conceived open marriage as one in which each partner has room for personal growth and can develop friendships outside of marriage. Most chapters of the book with non-controversial approaches to revitalizing marriage in areas of trust, flexibility, communication, identity and equality.

In chapter 16, for example, called "Love Without Jealousy," devoted 20 pages to the proposition that an open marriage could include (or not) some forms of sexuality with other partners. These concepts entered the cultural consciousness and the term "open marriage" became synonymous with sexually non-monogamous marriage (not to be confused with polygamy).

In 1977, with the publication of "The Marriage Premise, Nena O'Neill advocated sexual fidelity in a chapter with the same name. Since then, the concept of open marriage as sexually non-monogamous came to life itself.

Today, with many couples who do not seek a formal wedding, the term is frequently generalized to 'open relationship'. The concept of being sexually open or closed is also sometimes applied to triads or other groups larger than two.

Incidence of open marriages

The incidence of open marriage is the frequency with which such a relationship occurs. There are many definitional problems that complicate attempts to determine the incidence of open marriages. Sometimes, for example, people say they have an open marriage without the consent of the partner. People can also agree with extramarital sex, but having never actually practiced.

Besides these, there are those who say they are monogamous, but practice extramarital sex (such behavior tends to be frowned upon and is not considered open marriage, but betrayal). Some researchers define open marriage with very vague terms.

However, despite these difficulties, it is estimated that the incidence of open marriage is 2% to 6% of married people. This number has remained relatively stable for at least two generations.

Styles Open Marriage

Couples in open marriages may prefer different kinds of extramarital affairs. Couples who prefer to extramarital relationships emphasizing love and emotional involvement have a polyamorous style of open marriage. Couples who prefer extramarital relationships emphasizing sexual gratification and friendships have a colorful style of wedding swinger.

These distinctions may depend on social psychological factors such as gender and may contribute to the formation of separate groups and communities swinggers and polyamory. However, despite these distinctions, all open marriages share the same problems: lack of social acceptance (there is a consensus that the problem is most severe), the need to maintain the relationship as a stable couple, beyond the issue of managing the jealous (which is quite difficult for beginners).

Social Acceptance of open marriages

Polls show that most people disapprove of any sexual activity outside marriage. There are few studies on the same disapproval specifically for open marriages. Often, people disapprove without knowing exactly what is usually motivated by pre-fabricated opinions and prejudiced. Critics raise moral objections, religious, psychological and even pathological to open marriages.

The lack of social acceptance exerts strong pressure on couples, which leads them to hide their choice of family, friends and colleagues. This greatly limits their social support network, sometimes resulting in some countries, loss of rights government health and psychological care.

Maintaining Relationships

The impact of open marriage on relationships varies across couples. Most states have a very high level of marital satisfaction and more lasting relationships. Others give up this lifestyle and return to monogamy. These couples often continue to believe that open marriage is a valid lifestyle, but not for them.

Still other couples experience serious problems and say that open marriage contributed to their divorces. All couples in open marriages should therefore pay close attention to their rules of conduct and maintenance of marriage.

Administration of Jealousy

Couples in open marriages usually arise in situations that potentially can cause jealousy. Most couples reported that he felt jealous at some point in their relationship. Some can handle it very well, others do not feel as safe. There are those who say they do not feel jealous in any way. Finally, there are those who can even transform your jealousy in a positive sense.

Ground rules for the couple early in the relationship are a great way to help manage jealousy in open marriages. However, they may not be sufficient in some cases. The biggest benefit in this sense is that couples usually come to understand more deeply the jealousy and how to deal with that sentiment.

An example of a paradoxical relation between the open marriage and jealousy is in the book "The Other Life of Catherine M" depicting the crisis of jealousy experienced by a famous writer in the midst of an extremely busy sex life.

Rules

Couples involved in open marriages or relationships typically adopt a set of general rules defined by the couple themselves, to guide their activities. These rules allow partners to coordinate their behaviors so that they reach common goals with less conflict. Some rules are universal in the sense that they apply to virtually all types of relationships in a particular culture.

Other rules apply to specific kinds of relationships such as friendships or marriages. The rules adopted by sexually monogamous couples (the majority) tend to prohibit behaviors that are seen as acts of infidelity, and sexual involvement with others.

The rules adopted by couples with open marriage tend to prohibit behaviors that cause jealousy, such as avoiding sexual relations with acquaintances in common, but usually are much more flexible than the practitioners of close relationship. Such rules may change according to time and are defined by each couple.

Legal Issues

The practice of sex outside marriage is generally illegal in most countries where adultery is illegal, regardless of whether the partners have agreed or not. Open Marriage is not the same thing as polygamy, where sexual relations are entirely maintained between the partners in a union formally recognized.

The Christkind of Christmas

The Christ is one in particular in Austria, Switzerland, in Catholic regions of Germany and in the region around Nuremberg widespread symbol of Christmas. Adults tell children that Christmas is the Christ and secretly brings the Christmas gifts.

It is often described as fair-haired baby with wings and halo shown. Colloquially, the Christ child frequently with the Christ Child, the presentation of the newborn Christ, confused.

History

The relationship between Christ and Santa Claus as the bringer of gifts is complex and contradictory developed: a development line goes from St. Nicholas to Santa Claus, the other from Christ to Santa Claus.

In medieval times the children on St. Nicholas (December 6) or were presented on the day of the Innocents (Dec 28), and the presents on Christmas Eve or on Christmas Day, as is common today did not exist back then. The Protestants, however, rejected the Roman Catholic form of worship of saints - and with it the worship of Saint Nicholas - from.

Therefore replaced with a high probability of Martin Luther in the 16th Century by the Nicholas the "Holy Christ" and moved the bestowal of gifts on the 25th December. Elsewhere, as in Switzerland, the mess was reformed into the 19th Century on New Year's Day instead.

"Holy Christ" was meant Jesus Christ, but not in the personification of the newborn Christ child. Over the years, developed the name "Christ" and the idea as angelic appearance . The Christ visibly became independent, and the connection to Jesus Christ was always clear.

The Reformed Switzerland was it - according to here (earlier) Bescherungstag valid - as well as the New Year's baby The angel-view has its origin probably in Christmas parade traditions, nativity play, which was often a host of angels from a "Christ-led."

The Christ spread first in Protestant Germany. Later, the custom spread to the Rhineland, from then, together with Advent wreath and Christmas tree to Bavaria and Austria.

This trend line has been crossed, however, ran counter to two: one hand was the Christ in North replaced and in parts of central Germany to the Protestants more and more from Santa Claus, the other repressed the Christ in Switzerland, more and more previously here both "Catholic" as well as "Protestant "Nicholas (Chlaus).

It was not only in the Catholic but also in parts of Switzerland in the 18th reformed and 19 Century rather than the "Lutheran" or "Catholic" Christmas, but the Chlaus (that Nicholas), brought in the days around Christmas or New Year's Eve at the gifts.

Even at the end of the 19th Century, in the Christ Reformed Switzerland in some places as "Catholic" or perceived as an import from the Catholic south of Germany. In the 20th Century, however, Nicholas was ousted again by Christmas.

Thus we find today the situation that the Christ is now mainly one part in a majority Catholic areas such as Austria, Bavaria and Baden-Wuerttemberg, the other is common but also in the neighboring both Catholic and Protestant Switzerland.

Since the mid-20th Century, is increasingly beside the Christ Child and Santa Claus, Santa Claus in film, television and the Christmas decorations found, probably mainly due to increasing U.S. influence.

The role of the bringer of gifts is in the predominantly Catholic areas of the German-speaking, however, still largely attributed to the Christ, only in the predominantly Protestant religious affiliation and areas to the east and north of Germany is the bringer of Christmas.

Today's importance

The Christ is today, like Santa Claus or St. Nicholas, a symbol of Christmas giving. Traditionally, children write a letter to Santa Claus before Christmas, in which they list their wishes. Adults tell their children that it will generally unseen on Christmas Eve or in some regions on the night of 25th December in the homes comes and brings the Christmas gifts.

Formerly an angelic Christ often-actress came to the mess in the family and in some places, this custom still exists. In recent years, the Christ more and more used for advertising purposes, most often as a girl with blond hair and blue eyes.

Post to the Christ child

Many children send letters with the pre-Christmas wishes to the Christ. These are, especially in the Austrian city's symbol, set up in extra Christmas post offices collected since 1950 and usually answered.

This post office is open each year and provides the letters that are sent on a special stamp. Per year will receive about 2 million items this special stamp. Even after Engelskirchen many letters are sent to the Christ Child. In winter 2008 the town received around 135,000 entries from 54 nations.

In Switzerland, the Swiss Post answered in the context of "Operation Christmas" every year about 17,000 children letters which were sent to the Christ Child or Father Christmas.

Christmas Angel

are the occasion of the Nuremberg Christmas market, since 1933 an annual Christmas Angel, played by actors to 1968. Since 1969 every two years a young woman from the city, at least sixteen years old must be elected to the Christ Child. In this suit opened the Christmas market in the city and then travels through Franconia to visit Advent and Christmas events.

In the Nuremberg costume presentation is the Christ, a young woman with haired hair, a crown and a white-golden angelic dress. The Nuremberg Christmas Angel opens up the Christmas market in Chicago.
