Calea Zacatechichi = Herb-of-Dream

Calea zacatechichi, also known as Herb-of-dream, is a plant used by the indigenous Mexico Oaxaca for divination based on dreams.

Uses

The Oaxaca state that this plant is able to "clarify the senses", calling the herb "THLE-by-kano" which means "leaf of God." Whenever they want to know the cause of an illness or the location of a distant or lost person, dry leaves are smoked the plant, in infusions or beverages are placed under the pillow before bedtime. Reportedly, the answer to the question is shown in a dream.

Preparation and dosing

The dried leaves are crushed and steeped in hot water, the resulting tea is drunk slowly, after the user goes to a quiet place and smokes a cigarette of the dried leaves of the same plant. The human dose for divinatory purposes reported by the people of Oaxaca is a handful of the leaves.

Cultivation

A good soil mix for growing Calea is 1 / 3 of a good substrate, 1 / 3 vermiculite and 1 / 3 humus. Propagation by seed can be attempted with the following method:

Sow the seeds in a pot with soil mix as above. Do not cover the seeds, moisten the seeds with water and cover with a plastic bag. This little greenhouse needs 4-6 hours of light to germinate. If the seeds dry out during this period, the plants will not germinate.
